I'm Josh, a recent Computer Science M.S. graduate from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with a bachelor's from the University of California Berkeley. My Master's thesis and expertise span computer vision, natural language processing, and reinforcement learning. My research focuses on leveraging both vision and language to extract information from images. My thesis research composes vision models using generated code to solve complex tasks, like visual-question answering.

I’ve built and scaled software systems across different stages of my career, with a strong focus on NLP and machine learning in recent years. Currently, I work as a Senior Principal NLP Engineer at NVIDIA, where I focus on bringing LLM-based systems into production, with an emphasis on improving inference efficiency, optimizing resource usage, and ensuring scalability in real-world environments. Earlier, I worked on developing deep learning models for NLP tasks such as sentiment analysis and speech applications, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to turn research into practical features. My background in software development and system architecture has given me a solid foundation in building large-scale, reliable systems. I enjoy working at the intersection of research and engineering, turning ideas into production-ready solutions, while also mentoring engineers and contributing to technical decision-making as systems grow in complexity.

Worked as a civilian electrical engineer for the Navy for four years, then in utilities for a little less than two. Now in the first steps of pursuing a career in computational linguistics, hoping to combine my passion for languages (especially Hebrew and Arabic) with my technical background.

My research focuses on understanding how intelligent systems learn from and represent complex and evolving information in the context of large-scale and noisy environments. I am particularly interested in interdisciplinary work at the intersection of language acquisition, deep learning, and natural language processing. As a computational linguist with two decades of experience writing natural-language processing software, I've used both statistical and symbolic approaches in a variety of programming languages to develop knowledge resources, tools, prototypes, and production code.

I am a graduating Master's in Computer Science student who is passionate about learning machines, including but not limited to computers, humans, and my dog Bob.
