Currently at Google research. Previously: I was at X (f.k.a. Google X), working on building deep learning algorithms for robotics problems at the Every day robots project. At X, I also spent a few months working on deep learning approaches to analyze neurological time-series data. I was previously a Staff Data Scientist working in the SmartPricing team at Walmart Labs where, I worked on formulating pricing problems as machine learning problems and then designing, deploying, monitoring (basically the entire life cycle) of machine learning algorithms for dynamic pricing on walmart.com. Long back in the past, I was a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Optimization group at the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery, UW-Madison. My mentors there were Rebecca Willett and Rob Nowak. I worked on designing algorithms to learn a flexible class of models, called single-index models. If you want an algorithm as interpretable as logistic regression, but more powerful then check out my AAAI 2017 and NIPS 2015 papers. In a second thread of work we designed and implemented algorithms for large scale bandit problems when the rewards of the different arms can be arranged as a positive-semidefinite matrix. The final result was a cool bandit algorithm that combined techniques from Nystrom methods and multi-armed bandits. If you ever were looking for an alternative to Nystrom algorithm, then our algorithms can be a good choice (look at my AISTATS 2017 paper). Prior to my stint at UW-Madison, I got my PhD from Georgia Tech, under the supervision of Alex Gray. I worked on new active learning algorithms and established bridges between the disparate fields of active learning and multi-armed bandits.
