I’m a data scientist/neuroscientist with expertise in signal processing, statistical analyses, and machine learning. I enjoy making sense of complex datasets to yield insights that can improve people’s lives. For my previous research, I developed algorithms to extract features from neurophysiological data, in order to better understand how the brain carries out cognitive processes such as selective visual attention and arithmetic processing. I have extensive experience presenting my work to both general and expert audiences. I started my undergraduate career as an electrical engineer, but eventually decided I wanted apply my knowledge to understanding the electrical signals in the brain (with the ultimate goal of being able to read other people’s minds, though I’m now relieved that we don’t understand the brain well enough to accomplish this goal). My other passion is teaching neuroscience and engaging in science outreach, to make science knowledge and research participation more accessible to the general public. Using mathematics and statistical models to make sense of the world around me has always been an intense interest of mine. My goal with studying Data Science at UVM is to learn the specific techniques I can use to satisfy this interest.

I am passionate about health-related data and advancing medical research to improve quality of life. During my PhD, I worked on how we can non-invasively stimulate the brain more effectively. In my postdoctoral studies, I worked on different aspects of functional MRI (fMRI), e.g., developing tailored pipelines for motion correction, exploring biomarkers of pain, and developing protocols for real-time feedback with fMRI. In my current role at Recursion, I am applying my years of research/teaching experience to improve our understanding of the complex fields of biology & chemistry and utilize this understanding in drug discovery. I feel lucky that I have always been in the intersection of data science, engineering, and healthcare, where my contributions could impact the lives of others in a positive way.
